ICC Champions Trophy - About the Event

The ICC organises a second 50-over per side event in addition to the ICC Cricket World Cup called the ICC Champions Trophy, which takes place every two years. The event, formerly known as the ICC Knockout, has been held five times and has been won by a different side on each occasion.
Winners of the competition include South Africa (1998), New Zealand (2000), Sri Lanka and India (2002), who were joint winners after the final was washed-out, West Indies (2004) and Australia (2006).
The tournament has been staged in Bangladesh (1998), Kenya (2000), Sri Lanka (2002), England (2004) and India (2006).
At the most recent event held in India, no side went through the event unbeaten and the competition saw a number of outstanding individual and team performances. In the semi-final, Australia defeated New Zealand by 36 runs, while in the other semi-final, the West Indies saw off the challenge of South Africa by a comfortable six-wicket victory.
The final was affected by rain and having bowled out the West Indies for 138 runs, Australia passed the revised Duckworth/Lewis target losing just two wickets.
The next event will take place in Pakistan in 2008 while the West Indies will host the competition in 2010
